The Hoya 82mm Variable Density Filter is a solid variable density filter providing an exposure reduction of about 1.5 to 9 stops. The 1/3 to 1/400 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than would normally be required.
This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication.
